5 Simple Tips to Achieve A Clean and Polished Hand Stitch

A polished hand stitch is definitely the key to selling more handmade goodies to your customers. If you can assure your customers that those goodies are well-made, then they’re surely worth every dime. I know it takes a lot of time and patience to achieve a polished hand stitch but it’s worth it.
Here are 5 helpful tips on how you can achieve a cleaner hand sewn finish.
1. Press before stitching
I know it takes more time, but I’m sure this step will help you a lot! Most of the time, we overlook to iron those seams or hems before sewing them by hand or using a sewing machine. Make sure not to skip this important step.
2. Keep the stitches straight and even.
Be conscious of the distance of every stitch. Make sure you stitch as straight and even as possible. This is the most important and the key to a polished hand stitch.
3. Keep the stitches shorter and closer.
The shorter and closer to each other, the more you can minimize having loose threads and give you a cleaner look.
4. Keep the seams parallel to each other.
Keeping the seams parallel to each other will make your work look neater and cleaner. Make sure to pin the pieces together before sewing to refrain them from moving while you are sewing.
5. Don’t pull the thread too much
Pulling on the thread too much can increase the tension on the fabric and can stress it out. So make sure you are pulling it just right.
